Making a BLOG PRIVATE?

When I clicked on the support link at bayWords it brought me here….

well that’s nice of them to dump their customers like that….

so now we have to find out what the hell baywords.com gives you in terms of wordpress, in order to be able to help you.

do you have FTP access to your files on baywords.com? – is the wordpress install there YOUR wordpress installation? or is it a shared install of the multi-user version of wordpress?

Lots of questions which aren’t answered by your opening post, because you didn’t know you should be answering them.

if you’ve just started with this blog, can I suggest you go over to wordpress.com and check them out? – if you want a private blog, they can definitely do that there, and you can rest assured that:

1) they have a support forum
2) they have a very large userbase
3) they’ll always stay on top of technical issues for you, so you never have to

After a little investigation it looks like baywords.com is run by the same folks that run piratebay and is about free speech and such, it also seems that they are running wpmu. If you go to the front page there is a contact page link and you can use that for further support. As far as a totally private post with wpmu you can’t do that as far as I’m aware. With the standalone version of wp you can though some plugins.

Doesn’t the “standalone” www.ads-software.com code facilitate “private” posts via the “Keep this post private” check-box in the “Publish Status” section when writing/editing a post?

This allows the author to flag the popst as private, and will only allow it to be display *to him* when he is logged it. Unless I’m badloy misunderstanding something, it seems like this would meet daviaw06’s needs.

private blogs are usually not private just for the author – the intent is to make them viewable to registered users, but not otherwise.

I’m not fully in touch with what wordpress.com offers, but I do believe they have a nice set of privacy features there…. or you can do it yourself with plugins on your own blog.

Another way to set up a private blog would simply be to password protect the entire site — if you mean a blog that you don’t want anyone to see, or just a few people to see (as opposed to a blog with content that is for a large private membership). If the whole site is password protected, then no one can access it at all without the password.

Yes. This is easy. Number of ways doing it. All involve hacks. So the best solution is a plugin.

There is a plugin that will do it but it stopped working when WordPress 2.5 came out.
