This was my favorite popularity widget until I realized that every time a post is displayed in any other widget (category, newest, etc.), it is counted by your widget.

Therefore, these posts (in widgets)are being counted on every visit to every page on my site. Just refreshing the page adds a count to every post displayed in every widget.

What can I do to fix this?

What widget are you using to display these posts? Is it s specific plugin / theme related one?

You might need to isolate which of these is probably clashing. Two quick ways to check are:

    a) Switch to another theme e.g. Twenty Sixteen
    b) Find the plugin generating the widget (if it is a plugin) and deactivate it and test if the counting stops

    Thanks Ajay,
The conflicting plugin is Category Posts Widget.
Right now, I am trying WordPress Popular Posts.
Your plugin does more, but it also slowed the load time of my site.

Understood. I’m testing yet another tracker in the next version of the plugin which should hopefully be better by loading things in the footer.

Have you been using the cache?

No, I’m not cache-ing at the time.

Do give the plugin cache a shot if you’re considering using the plugin. It complements any other caching plugin or works independently and drastically speeds up load time

    Thanks,
    Next time, I’ll try it.
