Multi purpose Theme Vs. Specific Theme – What do you think?

  • Dear friends,
    I’m quite new to WordPress.
    I wonder which option is generally better: 1. Finding a theme that has more or less the design I’m looking for. Or 2. Choosing a general multipurpose well written theme, which also comes with a visual builder/editor, and customizing the design to my needs.
    I would like to know what experienced users think about this issue.
    To be hones, I have a small tendency to the second option, because a multipurpose popular theme is probably more frequently updated, and will have more options.

    This really should be in Miscellaneous. No one will see your question here and I’ve deleted your duplicate topic.

    Back on topic: most people go with choice #1 because they lack the skills to build the site they really want so starting with a theme works.

    If you do use that option then consider creating and activating a child theme of that.

    That way you can start to customize it in small ways and still have an installation that is supportable. Every site I have uses a child theme for that reason. I don’t have the skill set to create a masterpiece but I can tinker with the CSS and make adjustments.

    Edit: The themes and plugin support sub-forums are really for specific theme and plugin questions. Many people do post general questions there but they also don’t get answers. Those sub-forums do not get picked up from this filter.

    Neither does Miscellaneous but many people do manually visit that sub-forum. Your question isn’t specific and you are just asking “Pre-fabricated home or make my own” which is a not terribly useful carpenter metaphor but the coffee is just now kicking in for me. ??
