• I just installed the registered only plugin, and it works really well *except* it breaks my ability to upload files within posts/pages. After I upload a file, the login box appears inside the file upload popup. I can’t actually insert the file into my post, because when I press “save,” the file vanishes from the gallery.

Upon disabling the plugin, the file upload worked properly.

Any solutions? it’s a bit of a pain to have to resort to FTP or disabling the plugin each time i need to upload…

  • I encountered the same problem – this plugin gives an “HTTP error” when uploading any file to WP 2.5.

The solution is easy – delete the plugin and install this one instead:

    https://www.ads-software.com/extend/plugins/registered-users-only/

Does the same thing, but more securely and without breaking uploads.

shacker is right – registered-only won’t work. This code is over 3 years old and either he had a bug to begin with, or WP’s code broke it from within on the 2.5.x updates. In any event, this old plugin writes files with UID “nobody” under 2.5.x, which aggrevates unix security

The [new] registered-users-only plugin works just fine as a replacement. I also left a message on Carthik Sharma’s blog if he’s still around, maybe he’ll fix/update it

This plugin does nothing to protect your wp-content directory. For example, visit https://<hostname>/wp-content/uploads/2009/
    and you’ll see pictures.
