    Hi,

I am experiencing problems with my load times because of a link to your site that isn’t working.

Pingdom shows the broken link as…

    stats.ziprecipes.net/piwik.js

This appears to be some information collection, what’s going on? What exactly are you collecting and can I switch this off?

    Many thanks

  • Hi Kittyface,

I fixed the issue with load times. I moved hosts and had not setup stats.ziprecpies.net yet. Just fixed that.

Piwik is similar to Google Analytics and it collects similar data. It’s nice to know how many people are actually using the plugin. I clearly haven’t looked at it, though, which is why it was down.

There’s no way to disable that currently.

    Hi,

    Thanks for the quick response.

The issue with the URL not loading is now fixed as you say but the link is still causing my load time to more than treble.

This link is losing me over a second…
    https://stats.ziprecipes.net/piwik.js

    And this one 900 ms….

    https://stats.ziprecipes.net/piwik.php?action_name=my site &idsite=1&rec=1&r=27643&h=20&m=13&s=8&url=https%3A%2F%2Fmysite%2F&_id=67f26bbfb45ca865&_idts=1466359988&_idvc=1&_idn=0&_refts=0&_viewts=1466359988&send_image=0&pdf=1&qt=0&realp=0&wma=0&dir=0&fla=1&java=1&gears=0&ag=0&cookie=1&res=1280×1024&gt_ms=39

My site loads in 800ms but this is putting me around 2.4 second loads.

Is there anything we can do about that?

    Best wishes,
    K

    Hi Kittyface,

Page speed is important to me because it’s important to you (because it’s important to Google) ??

I’ll look into and do my best to make it better.

    Thanks for looking into this!

    Cheers,

    Hi,

I have decided to delete the plugin.

Good luck with the plugin but as it stands I can’t use it.

Not happy about the data collection or performance so I think I’ll move on.
Thanks for the work you have put in though it was certainly far out in front of most of the others I have tried.

    Best of luck. ??

Thanks for letting me know, Kittyface.

Good luck to you as well!

    Kittyface,

I’ve got a solution! With any premium version ( https://www.ziprecipes.net/ ) you can disable Zip Recipes Analytics.

Of course, in an ideal world I’d make this available for free. However, I’m really trying hard to make this plugin viable and not let it go into the deadpool like so many other in the WordPress ecosystem. I believe no one wins, in that scenario where old plugins are left out of date with no way for users to move their data and they just end up being sitting ducks for hackers.

Look forward to your feedback. I’m willing to implement this very quickly for you. Feel free to shoot me an email at [email protected]

    Cheers,
    -Gezim

    Hi Gezim,

Love your passion and commitment to the plugin. Your plugin is pretty cool too!

Unfortunately I have decided to move on because I’m not all that stoked about having a plugin now. I never felt great about the whole plugin thing and whilst it is more work I feel better about doing it myself now.

Thank you for your efforts and offers to do the work. It matters.

Best of luck and keep up the great work.

    Bestest wishes,
    Kitty
