    Hello,

The media library is not loading in the icon view, yet clicking to view the library as a list shows the files.

    I don’t get it.

Also, when trying to upload a new image to a post either by clicking on the ‘Add Media’ tab or by setting the featured image, the media library doesn’t load. The grey circle loading’ icons just keeps spinning and spinning.

If I try to upload a new image into the post, again by either way – it doesn’t work, and instead just shows an error afterward.

I contacted my hosting support to see if they could help me and they tried everything possible (restoring to previous versions, changing to the default theme, deactivating all plugins, and reverting core files) none of this worked, they told me to get ahold of wordpress support so here I am. ??

Anyone else have this issue, is this something wordpress is aware of, or is there any fix I could try?

    Thanks!

P.S. If it helps any, I am using the Genesis Child sample theme for my site, as well as google chrome browser.

  • Have you tried:

    – deactivating all plugins to see if this resolves the problem. If this works, re-activate the plugins one by one until you find the problematic plugin(s).

    – switching to the default theme to rule out any theme-specific problems.

resetting the plugins folder by FTP or PhpMyAdmin. Sometimes, an apparently inactive plugin can still cause problems.

    Hello ??

@esmi, yes I have tried that, I mentioned above what I have already tried. Deactivating the plugins didn’t fix it, switching to the default theme didn’t fix it, and I have no inactive plugins at the moment.

I don’t understand why this is happening haha, or what else I could try to get it working again. Is it maybe an issue with the recent wordpress update?

I am really at a loss, but am hoping this can be fixed soon as it’s quite important to have the media library/images working for my site.

    Thanks.

Try checking your site’s error logs for messages. It could be a php memory issue. Your hosts should be able to help you accessing your site’s error logs.

Have you tried testing with a different web browser? It could be an adblocker/security plugin which you have active in Chrome.

    This is what I get when I try to load the media library;

Is this a php memory issue? My hosting company said they tried everything they could on their end, perhaps they overlooked this?

@pipdig – thanks for the idea, I hadn’t thought of trying that yet so I logged in to the site using Internet Explorer instead of Chrome, but am still getting the same problems.

    Hmmm ˉ\_(ツ)_/ˉ

The site seems to be having trouble loading anything to be honest, not just the media library. The widgets, and other menus constantly load nonstop as well.

Is this a php memory issue?

That’s not possible for us to confirm without a copy of a couple of messages from your error logs. Certainly, processing a lot of very large images can be terribly resource heavy and, in some, situations, will result in the kind of symptoms that you describe.

The widgets, and other menus constantly load nonstop as well.

Even when using the default theme and no active plugins?

Interesting, did you send that screenshot to your hosting company? Those seem like web hosting issues to me, such as the 500 server error. It could be an issue with the PHP settings, mod_security or file permissions perhaps.

Additionally, if you’ve activated one of the default WP themes and deactivated all plugins then this also suggests it may be an issue at the hosting side.

Can you access your site’s error logs?

    Hey evryone,

So I did some testing to see if I could fix this by reverting to a backup from last Friday. Everything was working perfectly fine just this past Friday, and go figure – once I restored the backup everything was working well again.

So then I reupdated to the recent version of wordpress (4.5.3) and updated all my plugins – and everything is still fine.

I am still completely lost and confused as to what exactly happened and how it happened, and so I’m hoping it doesn’t happen again because I won’t know how to fix it lol. xD

But I’m going to keep the backup, I’m glad I got everything fixed again and only lost a few days worth of work, still a bummer but better than before.

Also going to mark this as resolved – as well as the other threads I made regarding the issue.

Thanks so much for offering suggestions and for your time and assistance >> was much appreciated!!

    Have a good week ??

I’m having the same issue. Are you able to tell me how to revert to a back up, please?

    With thanks.

    hey thirtysumthing,

I used a backup I had saved inside my hosting account, there are lots of ways to make backups though, to be able to restore from them, it’s all in which method you prefer to use. Your hosting provider may be able to help you restore from a backup tho so perhaps you could get ahold of them to ask. They usually do an automatic backup of your site each month/week/day, depending on the hosting provider you have.

This happened to me and the way I resolved it was by reinstalling WP.

does it lead to data loss, can you explain the procedure for the same???

Go to Dashboard > Updates > Click “Re-Install Now”

You should back up WP before you do this. No, it does not lead to data loss (at least it has never done so when I have reinstalled). It’s really easy and takes a few seconds to do.
