Order Status Not Updating After Completed Payment

We are using PayPal Standard for payment and are having issues with orders being marked as completed after payment goes through (they still show as “Processing”). I’ve gone through support documentation and done some troubleshooting – including contacting our web host to see if there are any known IPN issues with PayPal (there are not). I’ve verified that the primary email address is correct.
I’ve done “test” orders for a penny and after my payment goes through, I receive the order is processing email with the download link, but the order still shows as processing in the dashboard – not complete. I have to manually do that myself, when it should be done automatically after payment completes.
Are you able to provide some insight as to why this is happening?
