• I want to add a blog to the domain I’ve used nearly 2 decades. But, can a WordPress blog co-exist on the same host server with a non-blog site? And how does one set that up? My host provider was not helpful in answering this, so I’m looking to the blogosphere for help. Fittingly, I think.

  • Put WordPress in a folder off your web-root folder, for example, wordpress , or blog, then visitors can see the blog at https://www.yourdomain.com/blog.

Of course that assumes your hosting plan meets WordPress requirements.

Thanks, Michael. My current host is Web.com. Here’s what they wrote back to my first question — just asking if I can run a WordPress blog on my domain.

Thank you for contacting Web.com Technical Support regarding the issue you want to know if you can add a blog created with WordPress. I apologize for the inconvenience this issue may have caused you. With regards to this issue, we would like to inform you that there is no ready add-on to install a blog created with WordPress on the control panel and we do not support this because it is a 3rd Party Application and beyond our support, basically you can install a blog created with WordPress by creating a code and add this on your scripts, with this you will need to get intouch with your webmaster for them to install this on your web site.

    I think that’s a yes.

You asked the wrong question, I guess. (“can I run…”)

Go to that Requirements page MichaelH linked above and copy those specific requirements into your email asking if your host has or not all that on your server.
Tell them not to write novels just yes and no answers.

I did that, moshu, and got the information I needed: No they don’t have those specific items. At least not for me, on a “legacy” plan. I’ve been dissatisfied with Web.com for some time. This is good incentive to find a new host.

    Thanks for your help.
