    Hi there!

First of all, let me congratulate you, this is a great plugin! ??

I was checking the “contentUrl” of the “AudioObject”, and the url is like this:

    https://media.blubrry.com/marketingonline/s/MYDOMAIN.com/podcasts/file.mp3

I would like it to be MYDOMAIN.com/podcasts/file.mp3 instead, that is the actual URL of the content, within my domain. Is that possible?

    Thanks!

    Joan,

Yes, that portion of the URL is from Blubrry podcast statistics. Please go into PowerPress settings > Services and Statistics and remove the Blubrry Statistics redirect. Doing so will no longer track your podcast downloads but will provide your own dot.com in the URLs.

Can I ask why this is necessary? It is not uncommon for links to go to other domains, e.g. google analytics.

Also, please consider hosting your media files somewhere not on your web site. WordPress websites are not designed to serve large files. Content Deliver Networks (CDN’s) are the appropriate way to host large files. Read here for details: https://create.blubrry.com/manual/internet-media-hosting/

    Hi there Angelo!

I love Blubrry Statistics, and I would love to keep the redirection for the rest of the settings, but I host my own MP3 (not in WordPress uploads directory), soI would like the schema to point to my domain instead of a 3rd party (just in case something happens to that 3rd party ;). Is there a way to disable the redirection only for that schema info?

And thanks so much for your fast answer!

    Joan, not currently.

I can not speak for other statistics services, but our redirect is setup with redundancy and failover built-in. Since we started providing the service in 2006 we have not had a single outage. We have had maintenance, the way we perform maintenance is to roll the host name over to a new cluster, so there’s never an outage.

As far as our company is concerned, we’re privately owned and in the black, we are not going anywhere.

May I ask why the schema URL is important but not the player, download links, or link in the feeds?

    Hi there!

Ok, that’s great to know! I just wanted to give Google the original source, avoiding redirections. BTW, why are you using a 302 redirect instead of a 301?

    Plugin Author Angelo Mandato

    (@amandato)

A 301 redirect is permanent. 302 is temporary. By using a temporary redirect the browser will not update the URL saved in the browser. This is important in case the user comes back to re-download, then the URL will be followed a 2nd time. If we did a 301 then we would not capture the additional download request.

Thanks for everything, Angelo! Finally I’ll disable the redirect and use my server stats. BTW, good luck with your Patreon campaign!! ??

Patreon campaign? How odd of you to mention. Is our Patreon campaign dominating our help documentation? I tried my best to only provide the link where www.ads-software.com wants donation links.

Sorry to see you leave Blubrry Statistics.

Last time I tested AudioObjects only a handful of search engines used them and they never displayed the actual media URL just the pages that had the AudioObjects in them. Do you mind sharing which search engine you are targeting?

A couple words of caution on web statistics
JavaScript based analytics will not pickup downloads that occur from your podcast feed. This includes Google Analytics.

Totals from web stats for non HTML pages amount to essentially a hit counter. Applications such as iTunes desktop and mobile apps such as the podcast iOS app will often break a download into many smaller requests, resulting in your web statistics reporting a hit count that is 100-1000 times higher than then what podcast download/play statistics would report.

Oh, no, in fact it’s very hidden! I think I saw it after one update, but apart from that, I’ve never seen the link again. Oh, and thanks for all the info about statistics, I’ll double check that!! ??
