Currently running Version 6.1.10, and seem to be getting a lot of traffic trying to login as ‘admin’.

I’ve got the system blocking the IP’s from trying to login for a period of time, but it seems my site is being targeted by bots.

Any ideas of how I can combat this with either WordFence, or another plugin to change the wp-login screen?

I am afraid if I block a specific network (i.e. coming from the US), I could impact Google Search bots, which are legit in ranking my website.

  • Once I paired up WordFence w/ JetPack’s Protect plugin and using CloudFlare’s DNS these types of attacks drastically reduced and in most cases went away entirely. Each provides a layer of defense, especially helpful at the DNS level reducing server hits.

The next problem is dealing with the server load all these plugins add to our sites just to keep them healthy. But for now, we pick our battles.
