Migrating to new host, but same domain

Like it says on the tin… I’m migrating a wordpress site to a new host but the domain name will remain the same (and is registered elsewhere).

I’ve gone through almost all the steps on this page but I want to make sure the site works before changing where the domain points to. I’m not sure how to test this though… and I’m not sure if there’s anything else I need to update. I noticed one of the htaccess files references a directory from the original server that will probably need to be updated?

So – what other updates do I need to make and how can I test the site on the new hosting service before updating the DNS?
