changing variable product to simple product

  • Hi, I have a variable product, with one of the variations being a digital downloadable version and the other being a physical version.

    I want to remove the physical option, so I was going to remove the variations and change the product from a variable product to a simple product that is digital and downloadable.

    My concern is that if I do this, it might effect the download file for the customers who have already purchased it…

    Will this cause them to not be able to download their product from the account page, or have no effect?

    Yes, will affect, since you’ll not just change from variable to simple, you need to delete the variations from the product and then change to simple.

    Best choice is to put your variable product as “out of stock” and you can hide from the catalog and search too (in the “Catalog visibility” option on the Publish metabox) and then create new products for each one.
