So now I load Content Syndication Reader into a ‘virgin’ WordPress site: C.S.R. is the only active plugin. Clicking on the ‘Settings->Content Syndication’ tab gives me the screen with ‘Account Settings’ and ‘Tools’ tabs BOTH OF WHICH ARE COMPLETELY BLANK with no way to add any information! I cannot add a user! This site has only one user and I am logged in as such. It has Admin permissions. It is using Redux Framework v3.3.9.4

    Hi

    That’s odd.

Can you enable wp debug mode and see if there are any php errors on that page:

I will see if I can get any debug info. I REALLY WANT THIS TO WORK otherwise I need to write the code myself when I really need to be doing SEO. I was trying this because I have not been able to get this to work and any of my sites but one. I have one site that is OK but when I add sites I can’t get it to work. As a test I launch my master site with wp-admin which give an invitation to login. I copy my API Account Details username/password and put this in the master site login. It logs in OK. Then I try to do a pull content from my client site and get a red error message “Access denied to server. Your subscription may not be active OR your login details are incorrect.” I create a new test Syndication Post. I know my master site is working OK as I have another client site that receives posts as expected but nothing with my new client. The first error email says “There was a problem contacting at least one of your client servers. Probably a server timeout or the site is down.” Then a second error email “Problem contacting client: testuser. Server response code: 403” where testuser is just that on my broken client.

While I have been a software engineer (Windows and Windows CE drivers) for over 30 years, I was trying to avoid getting in to debugging WordPress. Anyway, after setting the debug flag in wp-config.php I get the following when going to the site:

Notice: Array to string conversion in /home/agentmax/NovacekFinancial.com/wp-includes/formatting.php on line 1025

Also I am not able to login at this point and need to use cPanel to turn off debug. I also got a ton of warnings in wp-includes/pluggable.php before I logged out.

Have you created a new user account with the role “syndication sub” as stated in the instructions?

You can’t use your admin user on the reader site you must create a new user with the correct role on the MASTER SITE (not admin but syndication sub) then paste the username and password into the READER PLUGIN account settings on the READER SITE.

I have several user accounts in the master site. I have copied the process I did for my one working user with no success for the others. In the test client site novacekfinancial.com there are no boxes to fill when I go to the ‘Settings->Content Syndication’ tab. The ‘Account Settings’ and ‘Tools’ tab windows are completely blank with no boxes to fill. I will give you credentials to log in to novacekfinancial.com if we can do this securely.

That’s an error with the WordPress core. You should remove this php error first.

What plugins do you have in the plugins folder on the server?

Are you using one of the default themes which came with wordpress?

Remove plugins from the plugins folder on the server one at a time and test after each is removed to see if the php error is still there. You need to figure out what is causing that php error

I have a list of plugins on my server I will list in a moment. I am using Genesis Executive Pro theme with nothing unusual because as I said what I have been wanting to focus my time/energy on is SEO not site stuff.

One of those plugins or the theme is causing that error.

You need to get the site into a state where there are no php errors when debug mode is active. Any php errors can cause issues with the functionality of the WordPress core and other plugins.

This would explain why the reader plugin options page is broken on this site and not on any of the other reader sites you have created.

This site clearly has an issue which needs to be addressed before moving forward.

As far as the errors are concerned, those are on the ‘virgin’ site but there are a number of not-active plugins there. As this site is not in use I will take some time today and delete the client test site and reload it with just the Genesis Exec Pro and your plugin and see where that gets me.

    Hi

The issue with the options page is on the READER SITE. Did you enable debug mode on the READER SITE?

If so, this is where you need to focus. Errors on the MASTER SITE would not cause issues with the options page on the READER SITE plugin. Although PHP errors on the MASTER SITE could well cause issues with the syndication process.

But first things first, you need to figure out what is causing the options page to be empty on the READER SITE plugin

My guess is that it’s the theme which is causing the php error.

Try enabling one of the WordPress default themes like 2016

    Thread Starter Bub

    (@jdenning47)

I will try 2016 after I dump and reload the client (reader) site but would be surprised if a big name – famous theme/child like Genesis Executive Pro were the issue. I would guess it is one of the plugins as they can sometimes be sketchy. I generally only use plugins with a very large user base but you never know. I will get back to this thread in a few hours with my results.

Brand new site with 2016 and C.S.T. gets me back to my original problem so it must have been something in my plugins or theme.
ORIGINAL PROBLEM: When I do a pull from the client site I get “Access denied to server. Your subscription may not be active OR your login details are incorrect.”
I have tried everything I can think of. I have emulated the working client user, redone passwords, made sure the master site role is “Syndication Sub” and master site user information is similar, checked for case sensitivity, logged in to the master site with the username/password taken from the client to make sure I can login. I push test posts and they still get only to my one good client but none of my others. I try to pull posts and get the message above. I have checked the URLs in both directions.

    (@jdenning47)

I modified my brand new site to be a master and was able to make things work. This must be an issue in my first master site. I will try to discern what is causing the problem. It is still interesting that one of my sites connects to my original master but none after that.
