Admin Left and Won't Give Access

  • Help Please!

    My organization had a third party design our website, and they did not give my former supervisor administrative power to the website. The person who designed the site is not cooperating and is claiming he cannot help us. I am new to my position and would like to update the organization’s website. I am familiar with wordpress but not familiar with the details of site hosts. I know we have GoDaddy, but thats about it. Can anyone Please tell me how to get access to the site so I can make new pages, update the version of wordpress, and change the theme?

  • I don’t mean to be a stick in the mud but this may be a legal issue. If a 3rd party creates a website for you or an organization, whether paid or not, that website should be yours but check with a lawyer. Your organization should pay for the lawyer.

    Other option. Maybe you can work with GoDaddy. I imagine you would have to prove ownership of the site. Past emails when setting up the hosting may help. Perhaps the original hosting was directly paid for by your organization.

    Big caveat – I am not a lawyer and give this advice in a general opinion manner, not a formal legal advice.

    Also, try a whois.com lookup for more information using your url.

    Thanks for you help and the speedy response! I used the whois.com website and got some basic information about who our site is registered under (a former board member of our organization). I believe this will help get the ball rolling.

    I do have one more question, if you don’t mind. When I sign onto our wordpress and click on the very top left corner logo (where the name of our site drops down and I can click to preview it) there is also the name of the business that designed our site, and when I click on it I am directed to their website. It appears our websites are connected (but the designer says he has shut down his website). Why is his site still showing up in the drop down options?

    Do you have acces for your website’s host? For the phpmyadmin?
