The migrator plugin makes use of functionality that has been built into WordPress itself since 2009 so the theme should support it.

To control the size of embeds, visit Settings → Media, not the Thesis settings page.

If it’s still not working, including if you paste a URL on its own line as described in the WordPress documentation, then this is a fundamental issue with the theme that should be fixed in the theme.

If I paste a YouTube URL on its own line, the embed works, but it is too wide for the column that I am putting it in. The only way I know of to control the embed size is by using iframe coding.

These are the only options that appear on the Settings → Media page (please click link to view photo):

What happens with your migrator plugin is that, instead of deleting the [youtube][/youtube] BBcode and leaving the URL in place, it deletes the entire line, including the YouTube URL enclosed within the BBcode. That leaves all of my previous blog posts with no video embeds whatsoever!

Telling me that it ‘should work’ isn’t very helpful. I would prefer that you restore your old plugin even if you are not supporting it any more, so that I can have my blog working the way it was.

I’m sorry, I forgot that WordPress removed the setting from the settings page. There used to be this:

If I paste a YouTube URL on its own line, the embed works, but it is too wide for the column that I am putting it in.

This is an issue with the theme then, not my plugin. Your theme should be telling WordPress how big to make the embeds.

What happens with your migrator plugin is that, instead of deleting the [youtube][/youtube] BBcode and leaving the URL in place, it deletes the entire line, including the YouTube URL enclosed within the BBcode. That leaves all of my previous blog posts with no video embeds whatsoever!

My plugin actually doesn’t delete or modify your posts in any way.

What it does is take over handling the [youtube] shortcode and instead of creating the embed HTML itself, it lets WordPress do it.

If you disable my plugin, you’ll see the [youtube] shortcodes still there.

I don’t know why it’s not working and it’s pretty much impossible for me to know without installing the Thesis theme myself and reproducing your environment. I said it should be working because you aren’t doing anything wrong as far as I can tell. It’s your theme or something else.

I would prefer that you restore your old plugin even if you are not supporting it any more, so that I can have my blog working the way it was.

You can still download the old plugin:

But it won’t be receiving any bug fixes or support. You’ll be on your own.

Turns out that this was actually likely a Jetpack compatibility issue. Please update my plugin to v1.1.0 and it should work correctly now.
