    Yes, this plugin needs to stay active. I opted not to iterate through old posts, updating their content because that could cause bugs of its own.

    This new plugin is very lightweight, fast, and shouldn’t have any impact on your site’s performance. Also because it’s using WordPress core functionality, it should be always future compatible.
