Custom Post Type rewrite, but XML sitemap shows the old URL
-
Hi guys, maybe I’m missing something, but we have changed months ago our Custom Post Type slug (doing a rewrite when we register it in our functions.php file), but Yoast’s XML sitemap is still showing the original slug.
On the XML itself we can see that old slug being “active”, but we’d prefer to show the new one.
When we go to the old slug URL, we find a 404, and this impacts the number of images and content that Google indexes on there (on Yoast’s XML sitemap that page has a priority of 80%).
Is there anything I could do to make the XML sitemap to retrieve the new/rewritten Custom Post Type instead of the old one?
Should I redirect the old URL to the new one with a 301 to positively impact on Google even if the XML sitemap keeps being the same?
I may be missing something tough, so any suggestion is highly appreciated!
Cheers,
