    Hi,

is the testing site, that you import into, empty? Or is there a “Main menu” already in the testing site?

What the custom after_import code does, it just assigns the menu to the theme menu location, so if the menus are not the same, then something else is going on…

Please double check the menu in the original site and in the exported XML. Make sure there are not two menus with the same name. Also make sure the site you import into is empty (has no prior menus).

I tested the menu assignment with our themes a bunch of times and it always worked without a problem.

Let me know how it goes.

    Take care!

Yes the testing site is empty before I import into it. I delete all the plugins, the theme I am going to upload and images, and do a database reset before trying again. I went an extra step this time and deleted the menus too before I reset the database, so I am sure there was no existing menu. And it still imports the same way (which is not the same as the original site) There are only 2 menusin the original site – Main Menu and Top Menu (which only has one page). Top menu imports fine but not Main Menu. I wasn’t sure if it was supposed to be called as primary_menu (theme menu location) or main_menu – I tried both ways and it just sets the menu the same way every time.

    Hi,

is your menu actually set to the “main menu” theme location in the site you imported? Because it’s really strange that the menu is different from your original site.

My guess would be that the export file is not containing the correct menu… Could you please regenerate a new XML export file and try again. If this does not work, please send me the export XML, so I can take a look at it.

    Take care!

Yes, it is (or at least it was) set to Main Menu, and yes it is very strange! Anyways, I created a new menu in the original site, gave it a different name, exported an new xml. Also I changed the default theme in the importing site to 2016 rather than the parent theme (Divi) in case it was doing something strange. So I don’t know which one of these things did the trick, but at least one of them worked and the menu finally imported properly!! (it only took me all day to sort this out…..) Thank you for your support!

Hmmm… That’s very strange, but I’m glad it’s working now.

    Have a nice day!
