• Hey Guys

This is the error report I get when trying to install wordpress. Now I had wordpress on their but accidentally deleted the whole folder with my ftp account and then after doing this I deleted the domain name from my hosting and re added it.

Once I had re added the domain back I went to install wordpress and got the following area. Can anyone help me? I sent this error to my hosting company but have not heard back from them in 3 days.

    Install WordPress (2/3)

The installation can not be completed:

    – You cannot install more than one script in the root directory of a domain.

Click on the browser’s Back button to fix reported errors.

  • You get this error because you didn’t properly remove the previous WP install. You deleted the folder, but the databases are still there pointing the WP install to your root. I’m guessing this is some type of Fantastico or automatic install script that does the install. Follow the removal instructions in your control panel.

I have been to the control panel, I have removed it from wordpress, I have deleted my whole domain name and re added it and still nothing. I did this before on my first post that is why I don’t understand how it is still there.

    I cannot find this text,

You cannot install more than one script in the root directory of a domain

in the WordPress distribution. See if your host has any ideas.

I had the same problem. After uninstalling WP, then deleting the db, I still couldn’t install a new WP. I was getting the same error.

    Check for a Dir called .fantasticodata in your root Dir. In there is a file named installed_in_root.php. Open that file and delete the portion that refers to your failed install — should start with a $, and end with a ;

Save that change, and you should be money.

Fantastic – thx grfxboy and MichaelH for the pointer to his post – this worked for me.

Have now completed “WordPress 60-minute-+hair-pulled-out install”.

Without your help could have been much longer… ??

OMG, thank-you from me too! I had the same issue and would have never found that little file. Once I deleted it, I was indeed Money!

What if you don’t have a file in the root called “.fantasticodata?” What do you recommend doing then? I too deleted the wordpress database, deleted my entire remote directory, and still I have no luck. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.

look for something like fantver.php or fantfiles.txt or similar and delete it

What if you have removed the wordpress install using the wizard, removed all databases from your hoting and don’t have a file in the root called:

    – fantasticodata
    – fantver.php or
    – fantfiles.txt

I’ve been struggling with this for days ??

In case anyone reads my comment and has the same problem:

I was being thick. “.fantasticodata” is a hidden file and wasn’t viewable through my cPanel’s file manager. I had to use an FTP client to find and remove the installed_in_root.php file
