Best way to do an advanced search feature (multiple parameters)

A plugin? Code some way?

I want to be able to search posts (vehicles for sale) by year of vehicle, state, city, price, make, model, etc.

And how does this work with CREATING the posts? How do I program in these parameters. I’m only familiar with WordPress’s two parameters, categories and tags …
