As proposed by photocrati, herewith new topic:

When changing some settings in the “other options” panel, it automatically puts another role in the role settings drop down menu’s.

I have some custom roles in the wordpress system and when I do not take care of it, it changes all the nextgen role settings to one of my custom roles. When I press save without putting them all back to administrator, I practically kick myself out of the nextgen system. The NextGen settings tab disappears from the dashboard.
I tried with another user with the corresponding custom role, but that is not working. (this is known as nextgen does not work with the custom roles).

I have to use the “reset” tool for nextgen to give myself access again.

When I take care and change the settings back to administrator each time, there is no problem. But when I do not take care and accidentially press the save button, I am screwed.

@rvdm – Although NextGEN Gallery currently only supports the WordPress default roles, I cannot think of anything that would specifically change the settings for the roles and capabilities under Gallery > Other Options from what you are describing.

Is there anything in your custom roles setup / execution that could be touching on the default roles and transposing their capabilities?

    Thanks!

I’m in the same trouble: I assigned for every permission “some custom role”, which now I know I should not have done.
Anyway, now I cannot handle nextgen settings any more: even if I enter with a member have “some custom role”, there is no way to enter in nextgen admin page.

I understand that I did something wrong, now how can repair it?
can I run a query such “update sometable set somefiled = ‘administrator’ where ….”?

By the way, I think you should at least remove from the combo boxes the roles you know you don’t handle, so user can’t do something wrong.

@jumpy2015 – Please try our external Reset Tool plugin here: https://bitbucket.org/photocrati/nextgen-gallery-reset/get/default.zip

To install and activate, go to Plugins > Add New … Upload Plugin
To use, go to Tools > NextGEN Gallery Reset

We do not offer specific support for the Reset Tool plugin as is but it can help in many circumstances. In this case it will set all of the Roles and Capabilities options back to “Administrator”

    Thanks!

what the Reset Tool is expected to do? I mean, just resetting some settings or reset also the galleries created with nextGen? (the second would make it useless for me…)

@jumpy2015 – The Reset Option/Tool plugin will put the NextGEN Gallery plugin back to its installation defaults. It will not affect the images, galleries, albums, etc. you are using although if your are using NextGEN Legacy shortcodes you may see some changes to the inserted displays you have.

    Thanks!
