Widgets page half disappeared after update

Hi. I think an update has occurred on my wordpress and wiped out certain items on my widgets page.
Im looking to put an address ect on my footer bar to the right hand side (as I have a social media menu to the left) but when I go to put text widget in where previously there was sidebars/footers ect to the right hand side of the page that has now disappeared just leaving me with making custom/theme/primary sidebars. Before you just dragged and dropped the widgets into boxes it now looks like you have to make them. Please can someone tell me what to do and Im not thick but but can you make it a stupids guide just to be on the safe side as I am relative new to this and dont know much about coding. thanks were at
