Settings: Lowest level of access to the map editor: Access Denied
-
My client has WordPress access on their site set to Editor. I also have the lowest level of access to the map editor set to Editor. Now, they are receiving access denied – 403 when attempting to edit the map. It looks like this broke in one of the later releases.
If I update their WordPress access to Administrator, then all is good. When I switch them back to Editor – fail – access denied.
Anyone else able to replicate this?

Hi there.
Would you mind taking a screenshot of what you are experiencing so that I can look further into this for you?
What do you want me to take a screenshot of? The 403 page? It is just a generic Apache Forbidden, You don’t have permission to access /site/wp-admin/admin.php on this server.
It is really bizarre. They can access the entire plugin (as an Editor.) But, when you try to “Edit” a map, that is when the 403 pops up.
The only way I can get around it is to make everyone an Administrator on the website. But I can’t do that either.
Hi FGD.
Sorry for only getting back to you now.
Do you have any security plugins installed on your site? Has anything in your htaccess file been modified?
What versions of our plugin do you currently have installed?
I do have the iThemes Security plugin installed and activated. When I deactivated that plugin, it did start working so that must be the conflict. I checked the plugin settings and did not see anything that would be causing the issue. I also checked the htaccess files and deactivated them and the problem persisted when the plugin was activated. The only way to avoid the error is to keep the iThemes Security plugin deactivated. I should have another site with a similar config that I can test with. I will follow-up with my findings ASAP.
I appreciate your help Jarryd!
I deactivated the iThemes Security plugin and cleaned up the htaccess file after I removed the plugin entirely. The Maps plugin worked. I then reinstalled the iThemes Security plugin and set it up from scratch. And the conflict came back. Here is a copy of my htaccess file…

Also, I did try these plugins together on another site and they worked congruently without conflict.
Hi there.
Please try commenting out the line
RewriteCond %{HTTP_USER_AGENT} "^$" [NC,OR]
by adding a hash before the code and let me know if this helps?
A commented line will look like this:
#RewriteCond %{HTTP_USER_AGENT} "^$" [NC,OR]
If not, please try commenting each line out as a process of elimination and let me know if that works? This is the first time I’m come across something like this.
Thanks for the help but I’ve come to the conclusion that your plugin is not the cause of this. It is either Jetpack or iThemes Security plugins. I will visit their support pages.
Thanks!
Hi there.
Not a problem. Just shout if you need any further assistance with our plugin.
Whelp…. to circle back around…. I can say (for sure) that this plugin is the cause of the back-end of WordPress getting all janky. It did take me some time to drill down as I thought it was other plugins.
Also, I disabled the iThemes Security plugin to ensure there is no conflict there. I also changed themes. The problem only arrises when I enable this plugin. ??
When deactivating iThemes, did you perhaps try a blank .htaccess file along with that?
Your current .htaccess file seems to restrict/redirect/change quite a few things that might affect our plugin.
OK… thanks for your patience.
So, I cannot run iThemes Security along side with WP Google Maps plugins. When they are both running is when I have the problems. When I deactivate one (it doesn’t matter which one) the site dashboard is back to normal for people other than Administrators.
There must be some compatibility issues in regards to your two plugins and this website. It is weird because I have other sites with those two plugins running fine. Bizarre.
Sorry, I know that doesn’t help much.
Its a bit difficult to debug something like this accurately through forum posts, however I’m going to log this on Github as a potential conflict. https://github.com/CodeCabin/wp-google-maps/issues/143
We’ll then look further into this and try replicate the issue.
My apologies for any inconvenience caused by this.
Well… the MailPoet guys came to the rescue with a fix.
Increase the WordPress Memory Limit in the wp_config.php file.
/* Increase PHP Memory to 128MB */ define('WP_MEMORY_LIMIT', '128M');
Marking this issue as resolved.
Thanks!
