This is the same error observed when updating Pressforward to 4.01. I did a clean install of 4.02 and got the following fatal error when I activaed it:

Parse error: syntax error, unexpected ‘)’, expecting :: (T_PAAMAYIM_NEKUDOTAYIM) in /home/REDACTED/public_html/HerbsandOilsHub.com/wp-content/plugins/pressforward/Libraries/PFOpenGraph.php on line 56

I suspect if yo try to update an existing install of Pressforward, it will crash your system.

  • With the release of 4.02 I thought they had fixed the issue so I reinstalled the plugin. I have a multisite Installation and when I try to network activate I get the error described above. My main site https://beautifulcity.us

I see no activity or update from developers. I like pressforward but will start looking for a backup or alternative.

Hi all, I have a patch coming out now that should resolve this.

Hi, this should be resolved with 4.0.3, please update and tell us if it is resolved.

The issue is with some server configurations.

    Hello Alex.

It did NOT work for me. I’m running WordPress 4.6 on a dedicated server at Hostgator.

I tried to install 2 ways.

    1. I installed 4.0.3 from the dashboard and got:
Parse error: syntax error, unexpected ‘)’, expecting :: (T_PAAMAYIM_NEKUDOTAYIM) in /home/REDACTED/public_html/loriburkeskitchen.com/wp-content/plugins/pressforward/Libraries/PFOpenGraph.php on line 56

It crashed the site. I deleted Pressforward from the HG file manager.

    2. I then accessed my site, went to plugins and downloaded 4.0.3. I got the following message:

Plugin could not be activated because it triggered a fatal error.
Parse error: syntax error, unexpected ‘)’, expecting :: (T_PAAMAYIM_NEKUDOTAYIM) in /home/REDACTED/public_html/loriburkeskitchen.com/wp-content/plugins/pressforward/Libraries/PFOpenGraph.php on line 56

    Thanks.

    Hi nubchai,

4.0.3 revealed a further issue on some machines. Servers running PHP 5.4, which is technically depreciated, see: https://php.net/supported-versions.php, are parsing some of the code in an unexpected way. We altered the code to maintain backwards compatibility and the issue should now be resolved. The patch for this (4.0.4) is being uploaded as we speak and should be available for all within 30 minutes.

Not really resolved, I tried activating it on multisite and gave me error “header missing” I then deleted the plugin from server and tried reinstalling from wordpress and got error “cannot install” So I tried uploading the plugin via ftp and installing it, here is the error message I get.

Installing Plugin from uploaded file: pressforward.4.0.4.zip
    Unpacking the package…

    Installing the plugin…

The package could not be installed. No valid plugins were found.

    Plugin install failed.

There was an upload error that hit some but not all WP configurations, now resolved with 4.0.5
