After the upgrade, the message I get is “The lindaksienkiewicz.com page isn’t working. lindaksienkiewicz.com is currently unable to handle this request.”

I cleared my cache. I tried using both Chrome and Safari to access the dashboard. I use a Mac.

I don’t know what upgrade caused this. I’m not even sure what version of WordPress I am using! My website is working fine, except one widget looks wonky. Someone else built my website for me, I do not understand http, and I am not tech-savvy. I need simple to follow advice please to access my dashboard or to fix this.

Please check the error logs on your server for a more specific error message and see why it’s failing. If you need help locating them, ask your hosting provider to help you with that.
    – If you cannot find error logs or if you don’t find any helpful info in the error logs, try Enabling debugging and post the results.

I can’t find any error logs.

Are you saying I should download a debugging plug-in, such as https://www.ads-software.com/plugins/search.php?q=debug -?

    You can debug without plugin.

Have a read of this: Enabling debugging

All of this reads like a foreign language to me. For example, it states “The following code, inserted in your wp-config.php file, will…”

I do not know what a wp-config.php file is, or how to access it, much less insert anything in it.

How did you upgrade to 4.6 – manually or automatically?

    – If you did auto upgrade, then try MANUALLY updating. Download a fresh copy of the WordPress .zip file to your computer, unzip it, and use that to copy up all files and folders EXCEPT the wp-config.php file and the /wp-content/ directory. You may need to delete the old wp-admin and wp-includes folders and files on your server before uploading the new ones. Please read the Manual Update directions first.
Backup: If you haven’t already done, always backup everything (including your database) before doing any actions, just in case something really goes wrong. You can never have enough backups!

I don’t remember if it was manually or automatically. I just checked the box for the update on my dashboard, thinking what could go wrong. Right?

How do I back up my data base if I cannot access my dashboard? I recently paid for back ups, so I assume they were being done automatically.

Your site seems to be fine now.

Yes, @kmessinger, the site is working fine but I cannot access my dashboard.

Tara- I downloaded a WordPress .zip file. The first step reads
“Unzip the package in an empty directory and upload everything.”
What’s an empty directory? This is all greek to me! I need to hire a nerd to fix this because I am totally clueless.

What error message to you get when you try to log in?

did you build the site or somebody else built it for you?

If you can’t do the work yourself, you have the option of engaging a professional to assist you. If you want to follow that option and hire someone for this, then please try one of these sites: https://jobs.wordpress.net/
    or
    https://directory.codepoet.com/
(FYI, it’s not a good idea to respond to work offers from random forum users who have read about your issues.)

Someone built it for me. I shall try those links.
