• I had a map embedded, working fine. Since I got my API key that was required, I can not get the plug in to show my address on a map.
I have deactivated and re activated.
This is what I get: Sorry. We can not plot this address. A map will not be displayed. Is the address formatted correctly?
I have tried using different formats, and even a different address, but nothing seems to change that error.
Please advise, as this used to work great, and we loved it!

I’m sorry to hear you’ve run into issues.

Could you let me know what address you’ve entered?

    Thanks Jeremy.
The address we want displayed is
    38922 Queens Way
    Squamish BC
    V8B 0K8

(I did try other address’ in other towns just to test – no luck)

    Hi Jeremy,

We now have the same “Sorry. We can not plot this address” and missing map problem on https://www.activeitsupport.com contact page

    Contact Info (Jetpack) widget
    Sydney theme
    Latest jetpack 4.2.2

UK address as per https://www.activeitsupport.com contact page

We have obtained a google maps api key and posted it in the widget, and the appropriate apis appear to be enabled on our google api dashboard.

    I saw another post (https://www.ads-software.com/support/topic/google-map-in-contact-info-widget-throwing-an-error)
but I guess this is not required now that the api key can be posted into the widget.

@andi77cip This address seems to work for me:
    https://i.wpne.ws/hE1a

However, I think @activeitsupport may have helped me find the source of the problem. Could you both remove the API key from your Widget settings, save your settings, and then add your address, save your settings again, and then add the API key?

    Does that help?

    Hi Jeremy

I have tried that but it doesn’t make any difference.

I have also tried removing the widget and re-instating it.

Having added the widget back with the default data as supplied by the widget (San Diego address), there is no error and no map. If I enable the map, there is no error but the map frame on the contact page shows a google error saying that the key is required, and the map is not shown.

If I then supply the google api key, I get the “Sorry. We can not plot this address” error and no map.

    Hi guys,

    Thanks for your support.
Still no luck for me either.

I removed the info, saved, added the address, saved, then the API key. I didn’t get the error message, but no map shows.
My husband viewed the page from work, he said it shows a screen that says there is no map – my screen just has a blank space where the map should be.
(if it looks like an error I won’t leave it long, but I will leave the website for now so you can see what displays.

I have also deleted and re-installed jetpack.

Could you now try to remove the API key from that same widget, and save your settings again? Does the error disappear? If so, could you try adding the key back, and let me know how it goes?

If the steps above don’t work, could you both contact us via this contact form, and mention this thread? I might be able to understand the problem if I were able to run some tests on your sites.

    Thanks!

If I remove the API key, and leave “show map” ticked, the “Sorry. We can not plot this address” error goes away, but the map window has the google error.

If I put the key back, I am back to the “Sorry” and no map.

I’ll contact you on the contact form

    Thanks Jeremy,

Still no luck. There error did not come back, but the map isn’t displaying at all now. Again, just the blank space where the map should be shows on my screen.

I filled out the contact form as you suggested, let me know if there’s anything else I can do that might be helpful.
I would like to remove the map by unchecking ‘show map’ in the widget so it doesn’t look like an error – do you want to see how it displays on your screen before I do that?

    Cheers. Andi

Feel free to remove the map now; we’ll start working on that issue together once one of my colleagues or I get to your email.

    Hi Jeremy

    I’ve also unchecked “Show Map”

This is obviously a common error. How is it being resolved?

@jon-hart We haven’t been able to reliably reproduce the problem yet, but there is definitely a combination of steps that leads to the “Sorry. We can not plot this address” error message, even though the address is correct.

Are you experiencing the same issue? If so, could you walk me through the steps you followed to set up the widget?

    Thanks!

The problem was being caused by the key restriction within the Google API settings.

I had restricted API to use asterisks for wildcards in the address of the site, under HTTP referrers.
Having experimented with various settings, (because Google tells me somebody might steal my quota,) I’ve now set it to allow wild cards only after the .org/ part and it’s now working.

As an aside, it would be useful to be able to put in a separate address/postcode for the Google map, to allow us to move the location of the pin, without having to go through the whole process of asking Google to do it.

    Thanks
