• This is my problem:

After updating to 4.6, I’m not able to update any plugins or reinstall the 4.6 update (with the proprer button in update page). I receive the message: “Download Failed: Response could not be parsed”.
Also, if I check the plugin search page (add new plugin), it says me there is a problem with website or server and I cannot see or search a plugin directly from wordpress.

I turned off all plugins, but the problem is still there.

I restored my backup before 4.6 (ftp and db) and the site works fine.

I tried to update to 4.6 and after this I updated also all plugins: the problem appears.

I’m able to add a new plugin in the “add new plugin” page, there is only this problem with the update of wp-core and plugins.

  • On the updates page click the Re-install option. then try to run the update to 4.6. I had a similar problem on one of my client sites when 4.5.1 was released and when we did this it worked.

    Hope this helps!

I can’t. If I push that button, I reiceve the message: Download Failed Response could not be parsed.

Try MANUALLY updating. Download a fresh copy of the WordPress .zip file to your computer, unzip it, and use that to copy up all files and folders EXCEPT the wp-config.php file and the /wp-content/ directory. You may need to delete the old wp-admin and wp-includes folders and files on your server before uploading the new ones. Please read the Manual Update directions first.

Yes, unfortunately, if you can not click the Re-Install button either then your only option will be to do the update manually as @tara has suggested.

@tara I did also the manually update, like you said… but nothing. I don’t know what the problem is. I will restore the old backup for now.

I’m afraid it can be a php problem or something like that (server side).

    – Please check the error logs on your server for a more specific error message and see why it’s failing. If you need help locating them, ask your hosting provider to help you with that.
    – If you cannot find error logs or if you don’t find any helpful info in the error logs, try Enabling debugging and post the results

    Just for understanding a thing:

I made a full backup of the website and I’m running it in local, using XAMPP. All works fine with the new 4.6 update. No more errors (in local).

If I don’t have anymore erros, could it be the local run (XAMPP’s magic?) or can I confirm it’s a server error?
Just for being clear, I will move to another hosting-service in the next few days. I will restore the backup in the new host. I will have a 101% confirmations if it’s a server issue.
