Using UpdraftPlus 1.12.17 (free version) on Wednesday, Aug 23, I backed up my full membership site. Then on Friday, Aug. 25, WordFence said I needed to update the firewall, which I did. After that, a new member joined the membership area, but her welcome message (auto-generated from the memberSonic software) had an add-on message saying her access to the site was limited and mentioned the WF firewall. (I had to enter her membership manually.) I have not had a response on how to fix that in WordFence. So was wondering if it might be quicker to restore from the Aug 23 backup?

Would everything restore? Then would I only need to re-add that member? And would the WF update no longer be in effect (which I could deal with later through their support, perhaps).

I’ve backed up regularly, but have not yet had to restore, and with a membership component am hesitant to do so. Any thoughts?

    Hi,

I can confirm that restoring will restore everything in your site to the state it was at the time of the backup, yes. But, without knowing exactly what WordFence is disliking about your new member (I’m not a WordFence user), it’s rather hard to say from here whether you’d then be able to add her and not get the same problem, or whether you’d get the same problem again upon adding her, unfortunately…

    Hi, David,

Thank you for confirming about restoring the backup. A person on the MemberSonic group, who has extensive WordFence experience, had me check an option (“Block IP’s who send POST requests with blank User-Agent and Referer.”) – it was checked in my updated version of WF, yet not on his version nor on another site of mine that also had not been updated. So I have unchecked it and will now wait for the next new member to see if that solved the problem. Fingers crossed. (Every other likely cause was ruled out.)
