• I work for a site that used to run a podcast but we canceled it a few years back due to lack of time/resources to put together episodes.

If we were to disable the plugin at this point, what would happen to the existing podcast posts we have published?

Are there any sorts of codes we should insert into our podcast posts to take care of removing the podcast plugin? I know we’d have to insert a media player ourselves, but what else would we have to watch out for?

Deactivating PowerPress will remove all of its podcast elements from your website. So, the media players will disappear and your podcast RSS feed will stop working. If you had syndicated the show anywhere like iTunes, it’ll stop working there, too. If you don’t care about any of that, then there’s no harm in deactivating PowerPress. The WordPress posts you made for your podcast episodes will remain on the site. They just won’t have the media players/podcast links attached to them anymore.

We did have the podcast syndicated on iTunes. What kind of code would we have to add to the posts to make them work?

We only ever made 3 episodes, so it’s ok if it’s something super complex and manual.

In order to keep the podcast episodes listed in iTunes, you must have a functional RSS feed that meets the spec of iTunes. You don’t do this within your posts. Creating a podcast feed is one of the things PowerPress does.

So, if you want to leave the podcast episodes on your site with media players, and you want to continue to have the podcast listed in the iTunes Store, and PowerPress is already doing these things for you, why deactivate the plugin? You don’t have to keep updating the podcast in order to continue using the plugin.
