Bogo performance issue

  • Hi,

    I like Bogo very much for it’s simplicity and ease of use. However, I have noticed that the plugin slows down the initial page loading quite considerably, i.e. on average by 1.5 seconds. In reality, this means for my site a loading time of either 2-2.5 seconds (bogo disabled) or 4-4.5 seconds (bogo enabled).

    I’ve only found one (old) reference to bogo’s performance here, 3 years ago.

    Does anyone else experience/confirm this behavior? Any solutions?

  • Hey, this is interesting. I haven’t had a chance to test my site on a live server, but even on a local environment, I can notice it’s not as fast as it could be. Is there a test we can do to send it to the plugin’s author? It’d be great to improve load times.

    You can simply checking the waiting time difference when Bogo is enabled/disabled.

    1) Open the developer console in Firefox
    2) Go to the network tab
    3) Load your webpage
    4) Record in the Timings tab the waiting time component of the request
    5) Toggle Bogo
    6) Repeat step 4)
    7) Repeat steps 3-6 several times to smooth out other factors like server load

    I get consistently the following results:
    – Bogo enabled –> Waiting time: 3.3 seconds
    – Bogo disabled –> Waiting time: 1.9 seconds

    I have a lot of other plugins enabled (e-commerce website), so Bogo is taking up a large chunk of the loading time of the website.

    If someone else could recreate my observations, we would have some evidence that supports the claim that Bogo is indeed a factor here.

    Bogo slowed down my website dramatically. When bogo was activated the average load time was about 17 sec. After deactivating Bogo only 485ms! My logs were full of php timeout errors as well.

    Forgot to mention the version numbers: Bogo 2.8.1, WordPress 4.6.1
