Skipping of Post Numbers and WP Default Settings

  • Whenever I publish a post to my blog, the WordPress software automatically defaults to the ‘write new post’ function anticipating that I will want to start working on my next one (this advances the post numbering by one). When I navigate away from that screen, the number for that anticipated item is lost unless I save it as a draft to work on later.

    I’d like to try to keep my postings as sequential as possible but it’s too much work to go through that above procedure to do that. Is there a default setting where I can be sent automatically to the ‘Dashboard’ (/wp-admin/index.php)instead of the ‘Create new post’ (/wp-admin/post-new.php page) after I publish?

    Not until you hit save though, right?

    Posts will always be sequential — each post is a higher post_id than the earlier ones. ?? They just may not have consecutive numbers.

    Keep in mind each image you add also gets a post ID. As do any Pages that you might create.
