Good but not great

While I have used this on several sites over the last 4 years, I’ve had to move on to another 3rd party hardware based firewall company after being hacked by someone who knew what they were doing. Fortunately, I caught the intrusion right away and after battling them for control of the website, I was able to clean the site of take down and payload infections.

I left Wordfence running for bot throttling and another security layer behind the new firewall. That is until that latest version of WF updated last week which took down all of my plugins. I was able to restore them after renaming the plugin folder for WF. Yet, still had to reinstall one plugin to get it working again. Have no idea what happened but it was a pain in the you know what to get the site working again. Never had an issue like that with WF over the last several years.

It’s a good plugin for a software based solution but if you become a target of someone who knows the multiple WP vulnerabilities, you’ll discover it’s not an end-all solution. I’ve now got my site pretty well hardened and the effort required to get around everything won’t be worth a hacker’s time for the target they’re trying to hack; at least I hope!
