• This, fundamentally, is a great plugin as all the available reviews agree! It just does the job… assuming you like the styling. I would have happily rated it as 5 stars if I could have correctly changed the colors etc.

But it seems it is impossible to externally override the plugin CSS (!important tags in the original CSS on e.g. background-color). There is absolutely no documentation on this that I could find (on WP or a3Rev). And I can only assume that this would remain the same in the pro version. Not every theme welcomes black on white backgrounds input fields!

Moreover there is an unresolved, unreplied-to support request (from ‘depiction’) under the title of “Overriding Search Form CSS” from two months ago on exactly this problem. So I can only assume again that this restriction on styling is deliberate. The whole ethos of WP is access to styling!

I did change the ‘parent’ search box style in the end (lines 9 and 13 of jqueryautocomplete.css – in the assets/js/ajax-autocomplete folder) but I know now that I have to be very wary of plugin updates. Not good for me or the client.

It won’t stop me upgrading to the Pro version (when my client desires the extra features) though. The underlieing functionality is just too good.

I’ve tried to be as fair and ‘positive’ as I can so please no ‘defensive’ replies!
