OK for a very basic membership site

  • For a paid plugin (“pro” version), I am a little disappointed.

    This plugin is easy to set-up, and the rules/access levels are great – beyond that it just doesn’t seem to have the critical features to run a serious membership site.

    The sign-up form only collects a username and email address. If you want to collect a member’s mailing address or even their full name, you’re out of luck. The only work-around is to install Buddypress.

    Membership also doesn’t have any kind of import tool, so if you have an existing membership database, you’ll have to install another plugin to do your importing. This isn’t too big of a deal, but still, from a paid plugin called “Membership”, I really expected a lot more.

    On the plus side, the support forum is very helpful – on the minus side, access costs $20 a month,

    Thanks for your review on this, though I would like to note, this is the review section specifically for the free version, not the premium.

    I understand your concern about the need for additional registration fields but we actually felt that the BuddyPress integration more than sufficed for that since BuddyPress’ custom profile fields are very powerful and totally free. BuddyPress is also modular so you can disable the other components if you don’t need them.

    Incidentally, BuddyPress provides some great extras like the member listing and front-end interface for the user profile and login.

    In any case, thanks for your feedback on all this. We’d totally love it if you’d consider re-reviewing specifically the free version here. ??
