Bluekai is used by this plugin – collecting data for someone else’s purpose is not on, particularly without the site owners permission – Ghosting identified this for me. This can be turned of by disabling the analytics.

The plugin should be clear when this type of activity is builtin.

We’re experimenting with overlaying BlueKai data over Shareaholic Analytics to (theoretically) make it better. Which is why when you disable Analytics, the BlueKai integration part also goes away as well since it’s no longer needed for anything. This is an experimental integration as we’re also in the process of learning about what is possible — we do think there is a treasure trove of data that one could overlay to provide a very interesting analytics view.

Regardless, we ARE working on specific controls on enabling/disabling BlueKai (and any other non-shareaholic data sources) if you chose to use Analytics but do not want BlueKai. This should be ready soon.

We mention overlaying non-shareaholic datasets over Shareaholic Analytics in the plugin description and also in the ToS. Do you feel we should we put this info in the admin menu as well? Somewhere else? We do not ever intend to hide anything (we apologize if it felt that way in any way) and our goal is all about helping YOU engage and learn more about your site visitors through the shareaholic platform. We’re all ears on how we can improve — and we will follow through, as we always do.

    Thank you for your response.

The point I am trying to make is that data sharing should be under the control of the site owner. There are far too many plugins that ‘mine data’ without the users permission.

I would recommend putting controls in the admin menu allowing the user to make conscious decisions on how and who data is shared with.

Hi Mike, we pushed out the controls to production yesterday. To set your site’s preference, click on “General Website Settings” in the Shareaholic WordPress admin menu -> scroll down to the “Analytics General Settings” section -> uncheck “Use trusted third party data services” -> Save Settings. This will turn off BlueKai and any other third party data overlay for the site. You can change this setting at any time going forward.

Thanks again for your feedback (please keep it coming). We’re trying very hard to deliver a service that is loved by everyone, and your feedback and advice is an integral and very valuable part of making that happen.

Hi Bluekai, also now appearing as a cross domain script and recommended by google page speed, gtmetrix and waterfall for removal.

    deactivation of plugin solves problem.

Shame the plugin seemed to be working quite well, sigh
