• I had a wordpress blog installed on a domain name but after making a number of mistakes I tried deleting the blog. Not being very tech minded I might add. I tried to install word press to the the same domain name and I keep getting an error saying I cannot install more then 1 script on a root directory. As far as I can see there are no files in the domain name under the public_html/domain name in the file manager in my cpanel. Any body with any idea of what my problem may be? Please keep in mind the fact that I am not very tech minded.

  • Whose your host?

Did you use some kind of auto installer (Fantastico, Simplescripts)?

Or did you upload the files & create a database manually?

If you havn’t allready then I suggest deleting the database and creating a new one & try again.

I have tried with Fantastico and manually. I deleted old data base and created new one. Nothing seems to work! I have just created another blog as a subdirectory on another domain name with no problem at all. I would just create this blog on a sub directory too but I was starting to build up some traffic on that domain name.

If you created it with fantastico then you probably want to uninstall with fantastico. Then navigate to the directory via ftp and make sure everything has actually been removed and also manually check the databases. If your sure you have completely removed all traces of your previous install but you still can’t install WordPress to that directory.

    Try this:

    1. login to your ftp
    2. find folder .fantasticodata
    3. find file installed_in_root.php and delete it.
    4. find folder .fantastico/WordPress look for a file using the domain and delete it.

    Try reinstalling WordPress.

Failing the above I would suggest you contact your host.

Hi, I had the same question and problem.
My host has Fantastico and all I had to to was
    log into the control panel
    access Fantastico (aptly named!)
click on WordPress from the left menu
click the “remove” link under the WordPress info.

When you want to intall a fresh blog, you might need to ftp in and delete the old directory that was created previously.

    Hope this works out.
