• Amazing. I came here to compliment this software and after reading the comments I did a little test. After disabling this plugin my site speed improved dramatically as measured by a third-party (Pingdom). Along with other reasons I would avoid this plugin.

  • Hi,

Would you care to specify the “other reasons” you mention to avoid this plugin?

If you download the plugin code, the README gives some tips for any problems you may have.

I encountered an issue because I had recently modified my functions.php file for my theme. Removing an ending “?>” fixed the issue for me.

    Hello,

As you can see by the one star reviews:
    https://www.ads-software.com/support/view/plugin-reviews/add-to-any?filter=1

I also saw redirect requests to the developers site every time a page that had the code was loaded. Pingdom showed exactly the URL it was requesting, which another person pointed out in the reviews above. It slowed my site down 1 second, and when I disabled it, it also went from taking up 25% of my CPU as shown by the plugin P3 to 0%. The P3 Plugin shows how much of the resources a plugin takes. In addition I care about my viewers and my own privacy, so I don’t support plugins that made clandestine calls to other websites. Very few people are going to look at the details of their website and the redirects it is making, so this means that very few are going to realize the true cost of using this plugin.

Instead I am using Simple Share Buttons Adder which doesn’t have any of these issues. It doesn’t send information to a third party. It doesn’t hog resources on the cpu, it doesn’t slow my sign down as measured by Pingdom. It doesn’t have any bad reviews about compromising privacy.

Perhaps they removed any links to mediasixdegrees after those comments were made , because I can not find reference to this in the plugin code.

I was using the plugin the day I wrote that review. If you go to Pingdom and load your website, then go under the Waterfall page you will see the link. Regardless, Google penalizes slow loading websites with less traffic/referrals so its not worth it to me.

    Wow. Thanks.
    Yes. Confirmed.

This link test of a site page on my site

shows hits to 2 new domains:

    static.addtoany.com/menu/
    (for a page.js file?)
    and to
    map.media6degrees.com/orbserv/
(data of my url? with a curl link?)

    hmm ..

Thanks again for pointing this out.

The external call to the page.js file on the addtoany.com server

    https://static.addtoany.com/menu/page.js

makes the call to the tracking code

    https://map.media6degrees.com/orbserv/hbpix?pixId=2869&curl=”+encodeURIComponent(location.href)

you can see it in the page.js code.

    *bleck*

You are welcome. So does this change your rating/usage of it?

Yes, have downgraded my rating with a warning.

There is an even more annoying one out there I have been evaluating. DO NOT Recommend this one: https://www.ads-software.com/plugins/e-mailit/
    It has popup ads!

Will probably switch to the Simple Share Buttons Adder that you recommend. https://www.ads-software.com/plugins/simple-share-buttons-adder/

    Thank you again.

Thanks for sharing this information. I also value my visitors performance and privacy so I took this very seriously.

However for the life of me and an hour of testing, searching, and looking I just can’t find where is external call is made.
All I find is the request to Facebook.

I do see your results – thanks for sharing those – So I don’t doubt this external request exists. But scratching my head because I don’t have those same results as you guys…

Could it be a setting somewhere we have different?

As for slowdowns – sure – it takes some amount of time to retrieve a Facebook or whatever Social media/s requests. In my case it’s about 200ms
Although not instantaneous, I think that’s acceptable.

    Cheers’
