Great solution for sites which are not automatically translated
-
We have top-level domain of https://www.peteranne.it in English (when we bought the domain in 2005, we didn’t realise that .it would mean “target customers in Italy”) and /it/ in Italian and /de/ in German. Pages are manually rewritten for each Language, eg we say in English, “Sardinia is bigger than Wales,” nothing in Italian (they know how big Sardinia is) and in German, “Sardinia is 2/3 the size of Switzerland”. For the last two years we simply added
<link rel=”alternate” hreflang=”en” href=”https://www.peteranne.it/” />
<link rel=”alternate” hreflang=”de” href=”https://www.peteranne.it/de/” />
<link rel=”alternate” hreflang=”it” href=”https://www.peteranne.it/it/” />
to the WP theme header – this was OK for the “Home” of each “site” but not applicable for all the other pages. Result: 813 hreflang-Tags 792
hreflang-Tags with errors. We have just “fixed” the three “home” pages, inserting the same info at the foot of the pages using the plugin which works with WP 4.1.3 and we assume also with 4.2. One question: why would you set this info on the “home” screen of the plugin?
