• Literally.

WordPress allows you to craft a website, Jetpack is what makes it a real, user friendly (and shareable) place for your visitors to be.

Without Jetpack, WordPress is like a waiting room without chairs. Sure, your visitors can come in, but there’s nothing for them to do without all the functionality that the various modules in Jetpack add.

From sharing to stats, why bother installing and looking after a whole bunch of different plugins?

Jetpack, by WordPress, for WordPress. Jetpack could just as well be core for me.
