API key: how to get (new) one?

    How can I get an API key – for activating akismet? WHen I fill in the account I see on my blog, I keep getting messages ‘invalid password’ or ‘invalid user name’ when using the name and password from the ‘my account’ page in my blog.
    When trying to get a new account, the programme telss me my mail address is already in use.

    What should I do to find out which codes to use?
