Not So Good as every body think it is
-
Hello
Soory but I don’t think it’s a good pluging
Perhaps there i a lot of functionalities and the table for apache are ok
BUT a lot of complications to use
for example you need to modify templates in phh for reordering into a page
you are always modyfing the css to get a nice view
for example in would like a wiew in list by default I need to go inside the code
Finally that’s just a table in a database with poor functionality; if you add pluggin yous get a “monster”
That just a product for ingeneers to ingeneers which can spend a lot of time to custom it
a suggestion use shortcode and not templates for modifying a page
give us parameters than to modify the css

Customisation always requires CSS, it doesn’t matter whether there is a UI for this or you do it via theme CSS – it’s still CSS ??
Finally that’s just a table in a database with poor functionality; if you add pluggin yous get a “monster”
Don’t know what you mean by that.
That just a product for ingeneers to ingeneers which can spend a lot of time to custom it
You can pick up a theme, install WC and start selling within minutes. Customisation is completely optional.
a suggestion use shortcode and not templates for modifying a page
Not as flexible; would mean no archives/other things WordPress offers. We weighed up the benefits of using shortcodes vs archives when this thing was built and made this decision. It was not made on a whim.
give us parameters than to modify the css
Another system to use would be worse. CSS is universal.
If you want a decent base for customisation and you’re not a developer, try https://www.ads-software.com/themes/storefront/. It’s free and styles everything up good for a decent start.
Otherwise there are thousands of other themes – find something that suits your needs without customisation. Or hire a developer to build a custom theme. Either way, it’s your store and livelihood and will be making you money, so do it right!
I too am becoming disgruntled with aspects of this plugin.
It is all well and good to suggest that we spend money on a theme or redesign our site to conform to your requirements but not all of us are coders or willing to be placed into some convenient box.If I had wanted woo theme then I would have used it at the outset, but This TOOL is to be used at MY convenience – NOT the other way around!!!
The latest grievance that I have is the depreciation of the (so called) “Legacy” Flat Rate shipping in favour of the zone system. This seems to be symptomatic of the main problem with this plugin – in that it is designed to fit the american markets and everyone else can just become Yankish or get stuffed.
The change was discovered only by accident. – I had already set up a perfectly good system that worked perfectly well, and was simply reviewing the pricing structure for a new item. – It seems that these zones are unnecessarily complex to set up (UK mainland vs UK Islands) and the information is as woefully absent as the warnings of impending change.Perhaps, if you learned the real meaning of customer satisfaction and stopped confusing it with customer billing things may be a little different.
Before you repeat the jibe about css and suggest that I take a course to study it or pay a developer – I have 8 different programming languages under my belt (including Prolog, Pascal and Algol)and have No Intention of picking up another at my time of life “Sonny Jim”.Consiquently, I support Pierre LIBERAS in his complaint.
Jennifer.
Bonjour
The best to do is to develop with WP
to use Winht track to get a site in an approximative HTML but much more light
and to publish it on the web
That’s not a Joke
When we said that’s a monster it’s because since yesterday one plugin failed the restore failed
and as sysiphe I do the same job again and again
With a good organisation as think that’s better to use dreamweaver and a little bit of JS
Of course that’s for american market a standard is enough to win a lot of money
CSS is perfect fot that one who developp the product but when you change a css for a template it’s hauwfull on the other
That’s no more than a “BIG MAC” oil and grease and ships and disgusting “sauce barbecue”
As an example to my last post….
Scotland Argyle and Bute is listed as one zone, half of which is islands.Given that it can cost twice as much to ship a sale to an island as to the mainland – Who do I price delivery for, or penalise?
If I price to cover the cost of the islands then I penalise my mainland customers (and probably loose the sale).
If I price for the UK Mainland customers then I loose money when delivering to the islands (and may well make a loss on the sale).
If I refuse to sell to the UK Islands then I am being prejudicial and opening myself to potential litigation. This is but one example of a poorly thought out change and I would Strongly Urge you to reconsider the “legacy depreciation” and “future discontinuation” in favour of either the status quo or a side by side system lest you loose your users. I am already having to consider alternatives, though I would far rather continue using Woo.
Jennifer.
A new problem has now occurred……
Having spent some significant time sorting, researching and selecting the various UK areas (split over several hours and repeat visits due to my busy schedule) which will fit within a flat rate zone…..
I am then presented with a failure to save. The data is dumped which requires me to go through the whole laborious process again. Is it any wonder that I am disgruntled??
laidyjennifer why are you even posting here instead of on the support forum? It’s not even related to the CSS issues the OP reported.
Zones can be added for certain postcodes – handle highlands like that. It works with UK postcodes fine – it’s actually an adaption of what was offered with table rate shipping which was one of the most popular paid extensions. Now it’s in core at no cost to you.
This is not any worse than the old flat rate which was only enabled on a per country basis anyway? How is allowing more specific zones any worse? Your logic confuses me. Legacy flat rate – 1 cost for 1 or many counties. Thats it. That’s not going to help you highland problem at all.
It’s all documented on https://docs.woocommerce.com/document/setting-up-shipping-zones/ anyhow if you want to read more.
Perhaps, if you learned the real meaning of customer satisfaction and stopped confusing it with customer billing things may be a little different.
It’s a feature added to core for free. Downloading free plugins does not make you a customer. Please remember that.

Pierre I don’t understand your point but if you add CSS to a CHILD THEME or via a plugin, your changes are upgrade safe.
Customisation requires some degree of knowledge, in this case CSS. If you want to do it yourself, be prepared to learn new things. You can of course just hire someone to make it/switch to a less customisable platform which handles styling for you/find a better theme – you have the freedom to do any one of those things. I don’t know why you’d be opposed to spending some money to have a store that makes money anyway. Seems a solid investment ??
Sorry Mike
I’m pretty old (67 years and my english is not very fluent
I Was the owner during the last years (early before microsoft PC in the 70’s years to 2006 ) the owner of a SSCI (company for software developpement
I’m not an old soldier who is talking about the last war
BUT
WordPress is a “nightmare”
Things seems easier when you start developping and step to step you add plugin; you spend a lot of time to find where “things” are
For example today I try to impland thme-child: perfect
BUT the conditional menu don’t run. I need to rebuild all
For the translation one time in the po; one time in the php; a single table will be easier
That’s free !
Perhaps, things free are really expansive. I would like better to pay for
and so a lot of plugin which are “approximative”
I need to test on a local serveur
At this time I have 6 different ticket open for different plugin for the same application
You thing that’s a good soft because there aure million of users. Yes my daughter, a lot of friens which don’t know what is a PC use WP
That’s for them not for me
at the end the web site is very heavy, very slow
There are solutions to improve all thats things
Hi Pierre,
I wonder if your issues stem from the theme you are choosing? These are also WordPress ‘problems’ you are describing, not WooCommerce specific issues?
I’d suggest you start with a nice clean theme, for example Storefront (free), and make a child theme for that.
A child them just needs style.css and functions.php – it will behave identical to the parent theme at first.
After switching themes, go to Appearance > Menus and get those setup.
That an easier response
The theme is good enough it’s Avada
I mike I try to explain.
That’s not concern You directly but similar
I need a forum on a web site
Fine I choose BBpress, Good Choice !
I spend a lot of time to try to customize to run through the CSS, avada parameters, Wp etc…
2 days working without satisfaction ‘modifying Php and so on
I stop all and download phpBB3 install 10 minutes
customisation 8 hoursThe job is finish and OK
WP is a great tool; Avada is a good Theme and no more. Woocommerce is indigent, The plugins is an other pb after 2 years the plugin is not compatible avec the new version etc…..
When You like at MS Office, you pay for it perhaps but you can work with it durind a century
Beware that WP don’t come a kind tool for student;
Best regards
If you want to never do updates don’t self host your site. If you choose to self host you need to do updates and maintain your site as updates and security fixes are released. You should understand this before choosing it.
I guess your problems come down to not being able to customise things yourself, in which case you should find a developer who can or use something else. I don’t think rating products like wc or bbpress based on your ability to customise things is entirely fair but nevermind. Good luck with whatever you use instead.
