• Hey guys,

I’ve searched around for this, but haven’t had any luck finding a solution so I reckon I must have just done something silly. Basically, I moved my old website to a new domain (https://www.coolcarhire.co.za to https://www.classic-rides.co.za). I did this by backing up the website on Softaculous/Cpanel after switching it to the new domain and then extracting the compressed file using Cpanel’s file manager. Now, I’m wanting to use the old domain for a new website, but all the changes I make to it affect the new website and vice versa. I’ve even tried restoring the old domains backup via Softaculous which links the WordPress site to coolcarhire, but then then old backup starts showing on the new domain.

Any help with this would be hugely appreciated.

    Thank you.

  • You have to change the site’s url in WordPress as well as change all the url’s in the site to new domain. Akeeba Backup/kickstart do it for you. Or you can use SearchReplaceDB2.php to do it for you.

I guess it’s possible that both sites/domains might be sharing the same database. Check the wp-config.php files for both domains and see if the database name, user, and locations are identical. If they are, then both sites are still sharing the same database.

Thanks Clayton James, I was using the old database in wp-config.php. Changing it to the new one fixed it.

    You’re welcome.
