Won’t Grab First Image Anymore

I have a chunk of code in my functions.php file on 2 different sites that automatically grabs the first image from a post, resizes it, and then displays it next to the excerpt on my homepage. Since I updated to WordPress 4.6, that function no longer works. I haven’t changed anything else, but I’m just wondering if this is deprecated code that needs to be altered to work on the latest version or if it’s a bug that will eventually be fixed.
