• Hi there,

I have a website in multiple languages:
    Belgium – Dutch
    Belgium – English
    Belgium – French
    China – Chinese
    China – English
    Spain – English
    Spain – Spanish
    Switzerland – English
    Switzerland – French
    Switzerland – German
    Switzerland – Italian
    United States – English
    United States – Spanish

    etc

I go to WPML > edit language and I am trying to add a new website version for Panama. I want to have new languages Panama – English and Panama – Spanish.

    language

I tried to add the Panama – English language with code pa_en , default locale en_US as it already has the US version and language tag EN.

I click save and it returns The default locale already exists without saving anything.

Moreover, whenever I try to change something from the already submitted languages it returns me the same message “The default locale already exists.”

    Feedback is welcome

  • Hi,

pa is Punjabi I think. You only need to create the es_PA locale. Do you have this? There is no Spanish/English locale as far as I am aware of.

pa_en is the new language URL right? /pa_en
The language will be the already used en_US

The error The default locale already exists
exists even if I try to just save something from the current installed languages.
For example translation text, and the change never saved.

I tried to use wpml troubleshoot tools for clean up but didn’t help.
    Any other suggestions?
