Thank you for looking into my issue, I am an amateur in website building but I will try to be as descriptive as possible.

I have had the wordpress site running for a few months without issues now. After a short break for about 2-3 weeks in updating and editing, today I come back to the site with various issues.

    1. Accessing the dash board is relatively slow
    2. Accessing the list of plugins / doing anything with the installed plugins is very slow
    3. Clicking on “Add new plugins” result in below error

Warning: An unexpected error occurred. Something may be wrong with www.ads-software.com or this server’s configuration. If you continue to have problems, please try the support forums. (WordPress could not establish a secure connection to www.ads-software.com.

    4. On dashboard, I noticed RSS errors

RSS Error: WP HTTP Error: Failed to connect to www.ads-software.com port 80: Connection timed out

RSS Error: WP HTTP Error: Failed to connect to planet.www.ads-software.com port 443: Connection timed out

So I did some digging and installed Update Tester as suggsted with the following results

PASS: Your WordPress install can communicate with www.ads-software.com securely.

PASS: No version control systems were detected.

PASS: Your installation of WordPress doesn’t require FTP credentials to perform updates.

WARNING: Couldn't retrieve a list of the checksums for WordPress 4.5.4. This could mean that connections are failing to www.ads-software.com.

    So my question would be:

    1. should I install to 4.6.1 to correct this issue?
    2. Is this something to do with my hosting company? What information should I provide them with for them to look into my problem or fix the problem?

Thank you very much in advance, much appreciated.

P.S. everything else works perfectly fine, i.e.

    1. updating/activating/deactivating currently installed plugins (although very slow)
    2. Accessing / editing / adding new pages
    3. Accessing the website in general

1 ) You should always keep your self updated to the latest version of WP. Im not sure if thats whats causing this specific issue

2 ) It could be a temporary spike in your web servers traffic ( esp if its shared hosting ) or you host may have throttled / rate limited out going requests and a less likely possiblilty is that there was a traffic spike here on WP.org during the time

I’d advise simply update, give it some time and try again. If that does not work. turn on WP_DEBUG and post the exact error messages you see here ?

You may also want to try renaming your plugins directory(via FTP or your hosting control panel’s file-manager) to force-deactivate them. If that improves your experience, there could be a faulty plugin causing some trouble. You can troubleshoot from there by renaming the folder back to “plugins”, then reactivating one at a time until the problem returns (if it does).

Hi everyone, I gave it a 24 Hr break and everything has resumed normal. I am going to update the site as suggested as well. Thank you.
