I have been pestering the Elementor folks to get this situation resolved for a long, long time now. What you describe is nothing new, it’s been like this since day one ??
Posted about this issue here in the Elementor Support forum, their GitHUB account and on the Elementor Facebook Group, all to no avail.
Like you, I want to be able to display content that I have laid out with Elementor in other parts of the site using a shortcode, notably, both from the Insert Pages plugin, and more importantly for me, the WP Show Posts plugin. As in your case, any formatting regarding colors, styles, etc. is stripped out of the content and what IS displayed is what one would get should one deactivate Elementor.
I have even tried “shaming” them into fixing this as their BB-iggest competitor in the page builder market, Beaver Builder, handles this with absolutely no problem … what you get is what you would expect ??
Don’t know what else to do or say other than just wait and see if this gets addressed in a future release. In the meantime, if you wan this sort of functionality, use the free, lite version of Beaver Builder! ?? Works a charm ??
Cheers!
LyleThe problem here is that those plugins haven’t been written to render Elementor content.
You might have better luck convincing those plugin authors to consider adding support for Elementor since it’s quickly gaining momentum in the WordPress page builder arena.
Don’t get me wrong, the suggestion is a great idea but there is more power for those plugins to support Elementor vs the opposite approach because they are doing the rendering not Elementor. You see, those plugins are performing the queries (doing the work and the output) and since Elementor builder’s content is not stored in the post’s wp “content” area they don’t display as they would when viewing them directly.
Additionally, what do you expect to happen when you build out a page with sections that now must render in a grid output such as an unordered list among other posts/pages, but Elementor’s css tells them to be full width or min-width or what about the js for full height? I could see a lot of weirdness arising from these little technicalities.
Points taken Phil, but in the end, BB works without anything special ??
Thank for your reply! Really appreciate it. So, Wow that is a bad news ?? I have planned to use The Elementor extensively but now seems like I need to look for the commercial alternative because this kind of feature is a must have for me. Do you know if the Divi Theme with Divi builder handles “this” just as Beaver Builder? Because Beaver Builder is a bit too costly for me.
The Standard BB is only 10.00 more than the Developer Divi, which you would need to get the plugin. I have Divi but have not tried it as I do not relish the shortcodes it generates ??
I have meant Beaver Builder + Beaver Builder Theme costs 200$ vs Divi Theme with Divi builder for 89$. Just thought that Beaver Builder Theme will have like 100% compatibility with Beaver Builder which means fewer issues in the future. But maybe you right and I just can get Beaver Builder + my Leap 13 Wiz theme, that actually has Visual Composer, that I don’t like ??

I suggest using BB as @learnwpbasics suggested. It’s a page builder that’s been around much longer and is likely built into the WP Show Posts plugin he suggested which would explain why it renders the BB result or it’s because it renders shortcodes which is what BB uses and Elementor does not, technically.
The caveat of course is that BB requires the paid version to access all of the components and I just never could get past the ridiculous name honestly.
I’ve been holding off on integrating my plugins until Elementor releases their API as well but once the do I’d expect there is an easy hook to render Elementor builder content.
Another up and coming builder is Tailor which is very different but has some nice features in that it places copies of the html it generates inside the content so as long as the plugin remains active (to provide it’s base css), it might very well render in your post query type shortcodes.
One way to find out if BB works with your theme is to try the free, lite version available on the WP Plugin repo:
https://www.ads-software.com/plugins/beaver-builder-lite-version/
If that works, then the commercial versions will as well ?? And you don’t need the BB theme; I exclusively now use the GeneratePress theme. Previously, I was a Genesis + Dynamik Website Builder user but I have found GP, especially with their GP Premium Add Ons works better for the type of site I build.
I don’t believe that BB, or anything else, is “built into” any other plugin. It is either compatible or it isn’t ?? Note that it is only the commercial versions of BB that have the shortcode capability that allow one to place content created with BB to be placed into other areas of a site using THEIR shortcode. However, one can easily mimic this behavior with the free, lite version of BB (albeit without all of the commercial modules) using the Insert Pages plugin.
Perhaps take a look at a tutorial I put together showing how to do so using the free version of BB and the GeneratePress theme ??
I just have tried “Tailor”, nope it doesn’t work.
Visual composer works with Wp show posts plugin.
This is nothing new with some page builders, and Elementor also faces these.
As Philip Ingram [@pingram3541] said rightly ‘ those plugins haven’t been written to render Elementor content.’
Even Beaver builder also had issues of rendering no styles with Insert pages plugin until both authors contacted for a solution. The developer of insert pages released a fix to rectify the bug. I followed that thread keenly until it was resolved. The devs were aware so I did not do a duplicate post.
Check out these threads on insert pages support.
Justins Busa’s support thread
Another thread with RobbyMcCulloughBB has their own shortcode now so issue resloved
So yes the Elementor must be supported by some plugins to play nicely.
Not all plugins are plug and play with total compatibility. Especially with new ones like Elementor.Contact the devs of the conflicting third party plugin and if they are cool with it, they can release a compatibility fix whiles the team at Pogo also do their part.
Have you tried to embed your code in the Shortcode widget?
Shortcode widget designed specifically for such things, pay attention to press the “Apply” button, then this should do the magic.
Hey @beretikod,
If you’re using Posts in Page, you should be able to tweak the output template of Posts in Page so that it has the markup needed CSS classes/ids to fit within your current theme’s styles.
Check the sticky posts in our support forum for inspiration.
Holler if you have any questions.
@arielk-1 I’m not sure a widgetized version of the shortcode is going to help them. Number 3 below is the specific part of this feature request.
1) They want to build out a bunch of pages/posts using Elementor – check
2) They want to list those pages/posts using a shortcode on another page (like an archive/blog type page) – check
3) They want the rendered list of pages/posts to also render the Elementor content within each queried post/pageSo let’s say I created 3 blog posts and using Elementor on each post I add 2 sections, one is a hero banner with a heading, some sub-text and a call to action button and then below that is a 3-column section with an icons, image and some text per each post.
Using the above scenario, they’d like to have a page that queries those 3 posts and puts them in a blog format, i.e. columns or unordered list, etc. but instead of just showing the titles, meta and/or a brief content excerpt, they want to show what was actually built in Elementor for all 3 posts, the 2 sections, the headings, images, icons, etc.
I have put together a quick screencast to illustrate the issue. I should also note that this is only an Insert Pages issue; WP Show Posts renders properly when the shortcode from it is placed in the Elementor Shortcode widget.

Quite simply, the desired effect is to simulate an Elementor “shortcode” (which does not yet exist) using the Insert Pages plugin so as to place Elementor-created content in other areas of the site, be it in a page, post, header, footer, etc. ??
