• Hello,
Having changed our site recently we wanted our 404 page to be a little more personal and helpful. Having changed some of the wording in notepad++ and saving, I then ftp’d it to the theme and it arrives blank?
I would really appreciate some suggestions as to why this might be happening, and how I overcome it please?
    Thankyou
    Regards
    Neil

YOu’re saying the 404 page has a zero length or are you saying that when you hit a 404 you get a blank page? if it’s the latter, then you have a PHP error on the page.

No, it’s the former. When it lands it shows zero length.
    Thankyou

Hmmm… how are you FTPing? If your client accepts it, set the file type to Binary if ASCII or ASCII if binary.

    OK – Thanks – I’ll give that a try.

You might also try your host control panel file transfer feature, as an alternative to FTP.

    Thanks for the responses.
Changing file type has not worked.
I have edited it via the cpanel after I had the issue but would really like to kow what the solution is.

    Update:
I have just opened this account in filezilla – I use WinSCP – and the required 404 file is opening correctly on the server.
I have tried the WinSCP help files but find nothing to explain this. When I open the same file using WinSCP it shows as blank – empty.
    Baffling!!
