Hi all, I just installed wordpress, and I’m having a little problem with uploading files, I went through few thread on internet, but the senario is bit different, so here’s my condition.

1.I have my 777 “wp-content/uploads” streight under my httpdocs folder. and I use the deault setting on the Miscellaneous settings for upload folder.

when I doing uploading, it returns this error message

“The uploaded file could not be moved to /var/www/vhosts/my_domain_name/httpdocs/wp-content/uploads.

Can anyone help me with this?!

  • The default setting includes the wp-content folder and your upload folder is in the root as you say. Doesn’t sound like a match to me.
Besides, if you make your wp-content folder writable by yourself (you’ve got it not writable for anyone?) the uploads folder will be created automatically.

To “Gangleri”:I am using the default wp-content folder, and the uploads folder is created automatically.

This is something I’ve done to my Miscellaneous settings

“Store uploads in this folder = wp-content”
“Full URL path to files (optional) = https://www.blahblah.com/wp-content”

and the upload file goes to the wp-content folder.

but when I tried to add “/uploads” after both of the settings, but it just wont work~

thats what I’ve gone up to so far~at least I can upload something now, if I tick the “Organize my uploads into month- and year-based folders ” option, that will causes error again, just cant imagine massive number of file in wp-content…..

Hi. I misread your message, probably because the “streight under my httpdocs folder” remark. The only thing I can think of is CHMOD, perhaps the permissions of the wp-content folder? If that’s not it, I’m out of suggestions.

    Hello there,

attach, I was facing the same trouble. Still don’t know the reasons, but I worked a way out. Hope it helps you too.

    1. From https://www.ads-software.com/support/topic/164999?replies=1
“Additional: A new issue in WordPress 2.6 occurs when you have a custom directory for file uploads. The upload will work, but the link/thumbnail link will be wrong and so the image won’t appear. This is a bug which can be fixed in one of two ways (either works):
    a) Specify the correct URL to the upload directory in the “optional” field just below the custom image path field.
    b) There’s a new wp-includes/functions.php which will eliminate the issue. Download it and replace your existing wp-includes/functions.php file with it. This fix will be in 2.6.1.”

    2. Change your upload location, that must be empty now (what means, the default location), to wp-content/uploads/2. Create the /2 subdirectory with write permissions.

    3. Try uploading something.

    Regards
