• I am converting a non-wp site to a wp site. The site has dozens of indexed pages and is several years old.

the name structure is typically “this_is_the_page_subject.php” and it wouldn’t necessarily make a good page title (ie %pagetitle% in permalinks) and it uses underscores not dashes.

what are my options to maintain the exact page names for the SE listings?

  • Editing some core WP files you can change the dash to underscore (there might even be a plugin for it… there is almost for everything).

And for posts, and only for single posts, you can add any kind of extension into the permalinks; e.g.
    %pagetitle%.php
    %pagetitle%.html

At least, I have seen such suggested solutions here in the forum.

thanks moshu – so it sounds like an SE friendly redirect would need to be put in place for each of the old pages…i believe thats a 301…
