I have a new user who is also an Administrator. I need to restrict their access but there are no actions next to their name in the AAM settings, just ‘—‘. If I login as that Admin I can change the restrictions, but then I can’t change the other Admin’s settings. Again I just see ‘—‘.

We used to be able to do this but I’m guessing one of the latest updates has removed this feature. Can you please put it back in or give me a workaround? If not, what was the last version of AAM that had this feature?

    Thanks in advance

  • Hi Tooze,

The ‘—‘ means that you do not have any permissions to modify that particular user or role. The typical cause for this issue is that your user does not have the same or higher user_level_x capability. Make sure that all user_level_0 to user_level_10 are checked.

    Hi Vasyl,

For my user, I’ve looked under Capabilities and searched for ‘level’. Listed are all the user levels i.e. Capability: level_10, level_9, level_8 ….

All of these are already checked by default. Is this what you mean?

    Hi Support,

Similar to tooze, i do not understand what you mean by, “Make sure that all user_level_0 to user_level_10 are checked.”

The new version is just so buggy whereas the previous version you can just edit each administrator access easily. Now the latest version i cannot change other admin’s access. It just shows a “-”

Is there a better explanation to the fix to this?

I really hope to continue use this amazing plugin..

    Thanks

    Hi there,

I’m guessing the best way to explain you guys is just to show the screenshot. But first let me explain the reason behind this change and it is only one reason. Too many people messing up with administrator role and loosing control over the site that is why we not only highlighting Administrator role or user with red color now, but also do now allow (by default) manage users on the same level as you are.

In order to go above this limitation, you should consider to create a new role (in the screenshot below it is called Custom Role) that inherits capabilities from Administrator role. Only after that create a new capability level_11 and check it for your Administrator role.

    See the screenshot.

OK I understand. That works but its slow and tedious, especially if we have lots of sites to do it on. Can you add in an option turns this new ‘safety feature’ off so that those who are careful and know what they’re doing (like us) can continue to manage other administrators? Our clients are set as Administrators because they often require access to WP features and plugins that aren’t allowed on the other roles.

You could just add a button somewhere with a big bold warning and an ‘Are you sure?’ pop up. At least you are covering yourself then if people lock themselves out!

    Thanks

    Tooze,

I will, but trust me “Are you sure?” for a lot people means – “Well, I’ll try…”.

    Regards,
    Vasyl
